Who hasn’t heard of Angela Baker? (And her Calendar Girls!)
The death of Baker’s husband from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma lead to her and her friends posing nude for a calendar 10 years ago. It has since raised about $3 million for Leukemia research.
"Calendar Girls", (L-R) Tricia Stewart, Angela Baker, Beryl Bamforth, Lynda Logan, Chris Clancey and Ross Fawcett pose for photographers at the launch of their new 2010 nude calendar in Leeds, northern England May 11, 2009.
Meet SALLY GORDON
Sally Gordon, the assistant sergeant-at-arms for the Nebraska Legislature, turned 100 years old March 26. Hundreds of people turned out to honor Gordon, who has held the post for 26 years and has no plans to retire. “When I don’t work, I just go crazy,” she said.
Last, but not least, RITA LEVI-MONTALCINI
As she turned 100 in April, Italian scientist and senator for life Rita Levi-Montalcini said she was as sharp as ever. Her advice for life? “Above all, don’t fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.” Above, Montalcini sips wine at an April 18 press conference in Rome for her 100th birthday, which was April 22. She won the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1986.
